"Redeemed" by Fanny J. Crosby

Frances Jane "Fanny" Crosby (1820-1915)

Fanny Crosby was born in Putnam County, New York to poor parents, John and Mercy Crosby. At six weeks old, she caught a cold and developed inflammation of the eyes. The family physician was not available, and the man who came in his place recommended hot poultices as treatment. The botched procedure blinded her for life. But this "handicap" did not deter her love for the Lord or her desire to write songs for Him. Ms. Crosby is credited with at least 8,000 gospel texts. Among the familiar are: To God Be the Glory, Blessed Assurance, Praise Him! Praise Him! and I am thine o' Lord.

Stanza - 1
Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
His child and forever I am.

Refrain
Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, redeemed,
His child and forever I am.

Stanza - 2
Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus,
No language my rapture can tell;
I know that the light of His presence
With me doth continually dwell.

Refrain

Stanza - 3
I think of my blessed Redeemer,
I think of Him all the day long:
I sing, for I cannot be silent;
His love is the theme of my song.

Refrain

Stanza - 4
I know there’s a crown that is waiting,
In yonder bright mansion for me,
And soon, with the spirits made perfect,
At home with the Lord I shall be.

Doctrine: Redemption
.
Redemption - from the Latin redemptio, "to redeem," "to buy back again." In theology, this is the idea that Christ "redeemed" or "bought back" mankind by delivering us from sin and its punishment, therefore making salvation possible. Jesus came to redeem fallen creation and to pay the price for human sin.

Scripture
- Mark 10:45; Luke 2:38; 24:21; Romans 3:24-26; 6:15-23; I Corinthians 1:30; Galatians 3:13; 4:5; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:12-14;
I Peter 1:18,19.

Think about this
- One of the strongest evidences for the validity of the gospel is a redeemed, vibrant life. What about your life? Have you been redeemed by the blood of the lamb? How do you know? Be certain! Once that has been settled, determine, with the Holy Spirit's help, to be a demonstration of a grateful and vibrant Christ follower. Sing His praises (literally and figuratively) all the time.
